The 2024 Northumberland County Show held in Bywell was a delightful day out for all, celebrating Northumbrian culture and heritage with a focus on farming, agriculture, and food. Thousands of visitors enjoyed food stalls, reenactments, and competitions featuring various animals, including horses and llamas.
Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter hosted a Fun Dog Show on Saturday 25 May, with a stall offering a tombola for humans and a lucky dip for dogs. The day attracted numerous families and dog enthusiasts keen to participate the Fun Dog Show. The show was viewable to the public and the stall had affordable items starting at £1, it was a hit among children and their families.

- 12:00 Golden Oldie (7+)
- 12:30 Cutest Puppy (Under 12 Months)
- 13:00 Child’s Best Friend
- 13:30 Remarkable Rescue

- 14:30 Best Trick
- 15:00 Best Crossbreed
- 15:30 Gorgeous Girlie
- 16:00 Handsome Hound
Participants were advised to bring cash due to potential signal issues for card machines at the large event. The event was a delightful experience for all, showcasing the bond between dogs and their owners.
Iain Riddell, Fundraising & Marketing Manager, expressed gratitude, saying, “We thank everyone for making the event a success, which raised over £500 for the Shelter. This will be used to support and care for our animals, ensuring they have the best chance at finding their forever home. The money raised will go towards rising vet bills, energy costs, and general animal care costs.”
The Northumberland County Show was a fantastic celebration that fostered a sense of community and appreciation for local culture and heritage. The Shelter hopes to participate again next year and continue this cherished tradition.
