Celebrating our Canine Companions at North East Dog Fest 2024
The 2024 North East Dog Fest held at Kirkley Hall was a truly delightful weekend for everyone! The festival is an opportunity to celebrate our amazing dogs and features a variety of food stalls (for both humans and dogs), arts and crafts stalls and a number of competitions and classes.
On both days of the festival, we had our own stall that offered a tombola for humans and a lucky dip for dogs. Alongside this, we hosted the Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter Dog Show kindly sponsored by Chuck Tails.
We had a number of categories that ran throughout the day:
10:30: Best Puppy
11:00: Best Paw Shake
11:30: Chucktails Handsome Page Boy (Handsome Hound)
12:00: Best Child Handler
12:30: Waggiest Tail
13:00: Best Trick
13:30: Chucktails Loveliest Flower Girl (Gorgeous Girlie)
14:00: Best Rescue
14:30: Golden Oldie
15:00: Best in Show
We met so many gorgeous dogs with some truly inspirational stories, including our best in show for Saturday, Letty, a lovely dog who is blind. This doesn’t stop her from showing off her wonderful and friendly personality which won over the hearts of our judges. Our best in show on the Sunday was the absolutely gorgeous Nikey, aptly named due to the white marking on his head in the shape of a Nike tick! Yet another beautiful dog with such an amazing personality.
Niamh Bell, our Community Fundraising Officer added ”Dog Fest 2024 was a total success, and we can’t thank the public and sponsors enough for making it such a great weekend. In total, we raised £2,536, which will go a long way in helping us to continue providing our animals with the best care they can get! The money raised will go towards vet bills, general running costs for the site and animal care costs”
The North East Dog Fest was an excellent weekend for celebrating the wonderful animals that are dogs. The Shelter‘s next Dog Show takes place at our annual Christmas Market.
