Tails were wagging at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter thanks to a donation of toys, food and a £400 cheque from Bellway North East.
The housebuilder amassed the donated items after setting up a collection point in its regional head office in Gateshead, in response to an appeal for spare toys on the shelter’s social media.
The collected gifts and cheque from the company were handed over to the charity at its base at Benton North Farm in Longbenton.
Amy Sansom, Events Coordinator at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter, said: “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Bellway for their generous donations, both tangible and financial. Their contribution of £400 to the shelter will make a significant impact, ensuring our beloved animals stay happy and warm this winter.
“Here at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter, we receive no government funding, and so the support from organisations like Bellway, and their commitment to the community, is invaluable.
“It not only helps us provide a sanctuary for our animals but also reinforces the spirit of compassion and shared responsibility, creating a brighter future for the thousands of animals we rehome each year.”
Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter was founded in 1896 and is the city’s oldest animal welfare charity, successfully rehoming around 1,000 animals each year.
As well as dogs and cats, the charity also cares for other animals and currently has pigs, donkeys and horses all looking for a new home.
Emma Chesterton, Sales Director at Bellway North East, said: “Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter cares for hundreds of animals every year and we are pleased to support the charity in its mission to provide animals with a safe environment while they await their forever homes.
“When we came across the toy appeal on the shelter’s Facebook page, we wanted to do our bit and set up a collection point at our divisional head office. We would like to thank the staff who generously donated.
