A great day on the green!
Tuesday 24 September marked our fourth annual Golf Day! The sun shone brightly over the fairways as supporters of Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter came together for the day, raising an incredible total of over £15,000 to support the Shelter’s vital work with animals in need.
Held at the beautiful Close House, golfers played the stunning Lee Westwood Filly Course.
There were a variety of exciting challenges during the day on offer, such as the ‘Longest Drive’ and ‘Nearest the Pin’ challenges as well as the ‘Beat the Pro’, where players took on Close House’s own PGA Professional, Camryn Bulman ⛳️.
In addition to the action on the course, the event featured two fantastic raffles, with the highlight being a signed bib from golfing legend Lee Westwood. Golfers and guests eagerly purchased tickets for the chance to win this unique piece of memorabilia, alongside other great prizes, such as a 4 ball at Close House, a £250 gift voucher for Gaucho, a Terry De Havilland voucher, and a voucher for a Champneys overnight spa break for two alongside a selection of other amazing prizes.

Our General Manager, Rachael Kendall said “We are absolutely thrilled with the turnout and support we received at this year’s golf day. Raising over £15,000 is a testament to the generosity of our supporters. These funds will go directly towards caring for the animals who need our help the most. We can’t thank everyone enough for making this event such a success.”
A big thank you goes out to the team at Close House, for all their hard work throughout the day, for ensuring that the course was in immaculate condition and for providing a delightful Roast dinner to everyone after the tournament. We’d also like to thank Steven Innes, who provided his wonderful services as our Compere for the day. Most importantly, we’d like to thank everyone who played a part in making the day such a huge success. We couldn’t do it without your incredible support!
If you missed this year’s event, don’t worry, next year’s on the 16 September 2025 promises to be even bigger and better. To make sure you don’t miss out, contact our general manager Rachael Kendall at rachael@dogandcatshelter.com today to enquire about taking part!
