Eclipse’s Journey
Meet Eclipse, a one-year-old spaniel who arrived at Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter in February 2025 after being found as a stray. Full of energy and uncertainty, Eclipse found the world overwhelming at times, and her big feelings often spilled over into over-arousal behaviours—jumping, lead-ragging, and barking when worried or unsure.
Though she had lovely manners when interacting with other dogs, Eclipse struggled to share her space, showing behaviours that meant she needed a home as the only pet. Despite these challenges, there was never any doubt about her potential—she was endlessly affectionate with the people she trusted, eager to please, and full of playful charm.
During her time at the shelter, Eclipse began the slow and steady process of learning to feel safe. Staff focused on helping her build confidence, giving her routine, consistency, and positive experiences to help her regulate those big emotions. She began to understand that people could be safe, that the lead could mean fun and freedom rather than confusion, and that affection didn’t need to feel overwhelming. Her playful side started to shine through.
While in our care, Eclipse also received treatment for a yeasty ear infection, which she was incredibly patient with. Her resilience and trust grew with every passing week, and we knew that with the right people, she’d flourish into the loving, confident dog we always believed she could be.
Eclipse’s Forever Home
We’re delighted to share that Eclipse has now found that right home—and she’s thriving.
Eclipse’s new family have told us that from the moment she arrived, she settled in beautifully. After a good sniff around the house and an enthusiastic zoom around the garden, she quickly made herself at home. She’s been playful and full of energy, especially when it comes to her favourite games of fetch with her ball or beloved pheasant toy—always bringing it back, ready for another throw.
Her family have also shared how relaxed she is in the home, enjoying naps in her bed or snuggles on the sofa. She ate all her dinner from the very first night, drank plenty of water, and curled up contentedly at the foot of their bed. The next morning, she woke up gently and shared kisses and cuddles—already forming a bond of trust and love.
Eclipse’s journey hasn’t always been straightforward, but thanks to the patience of our team and the love of her new family, she’s blossoming. She’s gone from an anxious stray to a joyful, intelligent, and affectionate companion—and she’s only just getting started.
We couldn’t be happier for Eclipse. She has found her place in the world, and it’s one where she is truly understood, supported, and loved.
